This is an exciting time for the Subject Learning Coach programme, which continues to develop, evolve and improve in response to feedback received from Subject Learning Coaches, the sector, the results from the independent evaluators and the inspectorate.
Dates for autumn network events will be announced shortly on this site. The events will feature the latest Teaching and Learning Programme resources, and update you on the new features of the Programme. Keep checking back to find out more about funded development projects for Subject Learning Coaches, including action research.
The Teaching and Learning Programme is now delivered as:
- Subject Learning Coach programme
- The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme.
The vision behind the programme remains consistent – to improve the quality of teaching and learning through the Subject Learning Coach model- supported by the three enablers: a professional training programme (PTP), leading edge resources, networks and peer and community activities.
As existing SLCs will be aware, QIA has opened up access to the programme resources by making all the existing resources available online. In this next phase of development we are also making the professional training programme (PTP) materials available in our download repository, and widening access to the PTP by enabling the training of Subject Learning Coaches within their own organisations.
The online support service at www.subjectlearningcoach.net will be substantially enhanced during the autumn and winter, so that it can be used to run Subject Learning Coach sessions “in-house”, supplemented by CD/DVD and paper based materials and face to face training.
The new delivery arrangements link the resources, networks and the professional training programme even more closely. This brings the three enablers together in a way which will allow increased impact, greater flexibility, and a new focus on the STEM subjects as a priority grouping.
The Subject Learning Coach programme is now delivered by Nord Anglia Education on behalf of QIA’s Teaching and Learning Programme. The STEM programme is delivered by a consortium of partners who have already contributed to the Teaching and Learning Programme, and includes the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics, the National Science Learning Centre, and the New Engineering Foundation.
During the transition we are sure there will be many issues raised by SLCs so we have created a bank of
frequently asked questions, which will grow as we receive more questions. If you have any questions that are not answered in the FAQs area, please email them to
